Abstract

The paper presented at the ONERA-DLR Aerospace Symposium describes a numerical method, that allows the determination of the aerodynamic response and the motion states of a manoeuvring aircraft. This is achieved by solving the time dependent Navier-Stokes equations and the inertial equations of motion of the aircraft simultaneously. The results of the loosely coupled computation are the complete time histories of the aircraft motion and of the instantaneous aerodynamic loads. The paper describes the principle of the CFD-FM coupling and the governing equations of the CFD and the FM-module. Time accurate solutions of a NACA-64A010 profile released from an angle of attack of 1 degree and pitching about x/c = 0.24 are presented.
