Application of Vehicle-to-X communication for railway solutions on the example of a concept for a request stop solution

Abstract

This contribution presents the results of the research undertaken within the framework of the German nationally funded project Rail2X, exploring possibilities for improvements in the railway sector when using standardized Vehicle-to-X communication and its components. At the example of a concept for an improved request stop system it is shown that the expected reliability and safety of a not safety relevant railway application is possible without adjustment of the Vehicle-to-X communication standard and independent of mobile communication networks. Based on a generic System description and activity diagram a set of functional and non-functional requirements was derived, that builds the basis for a demonstrator to be built in later stages of the project Rail2X. The demonstrator will Show the feasibility to implement this request stop system based on a cost-efficient infrastructure and following the Vehicle-to-X standard.
