Abstract

The key requirement for safe and secure shipping at sea is careful surveillance of the traffic situation. The primary sensor on board for this purpose is the radar. Multiple functions of the radar, such as sea and rain clutter suppression, exist to improve the visual recognition for the nautical personal. As of today there is only the option to set these improvements for the whole radar screen. The paper describes the concept of using multiple parallel filters to allow sub radar screen clutter reduction in order to reduce the rain clutter in one part of the radar screen and increase the gain in an other part of the radar screen
