Abstract

Composite components are increasingly important in industry. Due to their low weight and high strength, fibre-reinforced plastics are mainly used in the aerospace industry. Endless fibres are usually processed in conjunction with duromer and/or thermoplastic matrices. Different joining methods are available to achieve stable and secure connections between individual components. In addition to mechanical, this also includes welded and adhesive connections. In order to enable dust-free joining, a joining process consisting of a combination of welded and bonded joints is designed to achieve rapid power transmission. For this purpose, carbon fibre laminates are produced with a thermoplastic surface into which two different geometries are milled. A pasty adhesive is injected into these gaps. The sample plates are then welded together in a high-temperature press. In order to compare the force distribution of the individual components, different sample groups are tested. Purely welded samples, samples with cured and uncured adhesive are tested. The parts are tested according to ASTM standard D-5868 to assess their strength. It should be noted, however, that only fractions of the joining surface are actually connected to each other. The methodology aims to obtain a comparable combined area after the test on the one hand, and to be able to evaluate the substeps on the way there on the other hand.
