Abstract

A composite aircraft structure is inspected using a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system based on ultrasonic guided waves. A SHM Network is integrated during the manufacturing of a generic Door Surround Structure (DSS). Several realistic barely visible impact damages, such as skin delaminations or debondings of structural features, are introduced during an impacting campaign. This paper evaluates the identification of realistic damages in a composite door surround structure using a probability-based damage identification algorithm. Traditional non-destructive inspection (NDI) serves as a reference for the evaluation of the damage assessment. The results show a good correlation in detection as well as location of damages between SHM and traditional non-destructive inspection methods.
