Abstract

This paper focuses on investigating the usage of photovoltaics (PV) as electricity source for battery electric vehicles (BEV). The potential of PV usage is assessed based on user surveys within the InitiativE-BB and InitiativE-BW projects. A case study of a BEV used in 2015 and 2016 in conjunction with a roof-installed PV plant is analysed, charging patterns are derived and CO2 emissions originating from electricity production are calculated. The effect of using PV electricity on CO2 emissions and costs is quantified and a TCO comparison to conventional vehicles is performed.
