Abstract

By replacing the classical hexapod motion platform with an industrial robot, smaller, cost-effective and highly dexterous flight simulators can be designed. At DLR, two prototypes of this new kind of simulator have been developed, the modular DLR Robotic Motion Simulator and the Grenzebach DA42 Simulator. In this paper, both systems are introduced and possible applications, e.g. upset recovery training are discussed. Furthermore, the performance of these simulators will be evaluated with the ICAO Objective Motion Cueing Test (OMCT).
