Smart Work Station (SWS) is the first of its kind real-time eco-efficiency data collection system. In the era of Industry 4.0, the SWS concept opens up new possibilities in cost assessment of composite production. Unlike conventional assessment concepts, which are performed with laborious field data collection or assumptions, SWS collects all costrelated data automatically within a distinct system boundary in real-time. SWS detects the fibre, resin, ancillaries, energy consumption, equipment operation time, work time and facility utilisation, which are all measured with a unified timestamp.By uploading these collected data to the eco-efficiency assessment model (EEAM), which was developed by the Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems, the manufacturing cost is calculated and provided live within SWS. Furthermore, SWS enables a set of other realtime quality assurance decision support.
