Abstract

Besides classical applications (radar and stealth, antennas, microwave engineering), scattering and diffraction are enabling phenomena for some emerging research fields (artificial electromagnetic materials or metamaterials, terahertz technologies, electromagnetic aspects of nanoscience). The book gives fundamental knowledge about scattering and diffraction of electromagnetic waves and provides working examples of solutions for practical scattering and diffraction problems, with applications at radio-, microwave-, and optical frequencies. This self-contained graduate-level book fills the gap between the general electromagnetic theory courses and collections of engineering formulas and can serve as a tutorial for advanced students learning the mathematics and physics of electromagnetic scattering and curious to know how engineering concepts and techniques relate to the foundations of electromagnetics. The book can also be of interest to scientists, engineers, and university teachers concerned with modeling, simulation, and interpretation of electromagnetic phenomena.
