Abstract

In a new generic train laboratory, experimental studies on the passenger comfort and the heat removal efficiency of ventilation systems are conducted. The mock-up is based on the lower deck geometry of the next generation high-speed train (NGT) and comprises six rows of four seats each. Temperature and humidity probes as well as PIV are utilized. Thermal manikins are used for experimental simulation of the heat impact and obstruction by real passengers. Furthermore, subject studies are conducted. During the first measurement campaigns, displacement ventilation is investigated. The velocity field in the centre cross section in front of a thermal manikin reveals air velocities lower than 0.15 m/s. Comparison of subject studies with those using only thermal manikins underlines the necessity to adjust the amount of heat released by each thermal manikin as a function of the mean room temperature.
