Göttinger Monograph N: A Historic Document is Back

Abstract

The Göttinger Monograph N was written 1945-1946 summarizing the German Development and Research on Rotating Wing Aircraft from 1939 to 1945. It was written in large parts by Gerhard Jakobus Sissingh, who thereafter moved to England working for the RAE in Farnborough before immigrating to the US in 1951. In Braunschweig (location of the LFA “Hermann Göring” = Luftfahrtforschungsanstalt = aeronautical research establishment) as well as in Göttingen (location of the AVA = Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt = aerodynamic test facility; founded by Ludwig Prandtl) Monographs were written after the war in volumes A to Z each, covering the progresses of the German aeronautical research in all aspects (since 1939), where developments were ahead, even far ahead, of those of the Allies in order to make available this knowledge to US, British and French research establishments and industry. The Göttinger Monograph N is the only one about rotating wing aircraft, written in German language, and the only one not translated immediately into English. Later, some chapters had been translated. Recently the Göttinger Monograph N was completely translated into English by the author and newly published by AIAA.
