Abstract

The employment of robust receivers is essential for dependable navigation in safety-critical applications, where mitigating multipath, jammers and spoofing signals is required. DLR started the development of multi-antenna receivers which are especially robust against interference back in 2005 in the project GALANT. The fundamental concept is digital beamforming and a deep integration of the algorithms into the GNSS receiver to estimate the direction-of-arrival (DoA) of wanted and interfering signals. Additional algorithms for antenna attitude estimation have been implemented to identify spoofing and other pseudolite signals by comparing the satellite DoAs with the ephemeris data that is broadcasted by the satellites. The miniaturization of antenna array and front end has been conducted in a national consortium in the framework of the projects KOMPASSION and KOSERNA, which have been funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the Space Administration of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The outcome of these projects will represent a major step towards the commercialization of the receiver. Various receivers with different antenna and frontend setups as well as interference-mitigation techniques in the time, frequency and space domain have been developed and analysed. They have been studied in several measurement campaigns in a large variety of different interference scenarios. The demonstrations on Wednesday will show the outstanding performance and versatility of the robost array-antenna receiver in the following scenarios: 1. Spatial detection and visualization of RFI-signals in real-time (JamCam) 2. Suppression of high-power interference signals using robust array-antenna GNSS receivers 3. Jamming-signal suppression using miniaturized arrays and integrated frontend 4. Direction-of-arrival and antenna attitude estimation including spoofing detection
