Three generic leading edge models with a ceramic surface are investigated. They differ by the amount of radiative heat transfer within the models as part of a passive cooling concept. Coupled numerical simulations are performed using the DLR-TAU code and the MSC Software suite. The numerical results are compared with experimental data gained in the DLR’s arc heated facility L3K. The passive cooling effect is quantified numerically and experimentally to about 100K in the stagnation region.
