Kurzfassung
The present document is part of a collaboration project between NASA and DLR dealing with airport Surface Operations Optimization. In it, an analysis of current surface operations in European and US airports is discussed, followed by a description of the current trends in the development of optimization tools for this purpose, particularly focusing on the tools developed by the Aeronautics Research Organizations DLR and NASA. The objective of the document is to discuss the modeling of Charlotte Douglas International Airport using DLR’s software ADEN, taking a model developed by NASA as a basis. A code is the developed to automate the process of model adaptation as much as possible. Afterwards, the necessary changes to DLR’s ADEN to incorporate US airport taxi strategies are discussed, followed by a brief look into the future, where the changes in today’s commercial air transport procedures for the successful implementation of Surface Management Systems are considered
