Impinging jet injectors are often used for the atomization of storable liquid and gelled propellants in rocket engines due to their simplicity, good atomization and mixing characteristics. Gelled propellants are of interest for rocket and ramjet propulsion systems, because of their safety and performance benefits. Objective of this work is to extend the previous researches on impinging jet injectors by studying the atomization behavior of five gels and comparing it to the behavior of Newtonian fluids. In particular a regime diagram is constructed, showing the influence of the generalized Reynolds number and the Weber number on the breakup behavior and the location of different spray regimes. This diagram allows the direct comparison of the atomization behavior of Newtonian and non‐Newtonian fluids for corresponding Reynolds and Weber numbers.
