Abstract

Various cross sections (bistatic, total scattering, absorption and extinction) of electrically large impedance bodies are addressed, and it is conjectured that when the incident wave is randomly polarized, the mean total scattering cross section is at minimum and the mean absorption cross section is at maximum. The conjecture is supported with the results of numerical simulations of electromagnetic scattering from impedance spheres and circular cylinders.
