Abstract
An unstiffened composite conical structure which is a scaled-down version of the Ariane 5 Midlife Evolution Equipment Bay Structure was designed and manufactured. Implementation of tailoring study is presented and the manufacturing process is described. The conical structure will be tested to validate a new design approach. The study contributes to the European Union (EU) project DESICOS, whose aim is to develop less conservative design guidelines for imperfection sensitive thin-walled structures.
