Kurzfassung
This paper describes the aerodynamic performance of three different forward swept (FSW) wing designs with natural laminar flow (NLF), which were studied in the EU FP6 Integrated Programme NACRE (New Aircraft Concepts REsearch). The first design is the baseline geometry while the other two are optimised designs obtained by DLR and ONERA based on this baseline. The design approaches taken by DLR and ONERA are described and analysis of the results shows that a large extent of NLF can be achieved for FSW wings, resulting in significant drag reduction compared with a turbulent flow design. The advantages and disadvantages in the aerodynamic characteristics of a FSW in comparison to a conventional wing are discussed.
