Abstract

To extend the stable operation range of a lean, prevaporized, premixed combustor, a fluidically controlled staged jet engine burner has been studied. The burner has a main burner and a pilot burner which are located co-axially and a fluidic device to change air flow split ratio of the main burner and the pilot burner. PIV and some spectroscopic measurements with combustion were performed to investigate flow field, fuel placement and combustion characteristics in the combustion chamber downstream the burner. The results shows that the jet velocities from the pilot burner and the main burner were changed by the flow split ratio control. Also fuel placement, combustion reaction intensity, location of intensive reaction and atomization characteristics were changed.
