The Air Transportation System is a complex system based various stakeholders. The book provides an introduction for students and professionals in aviation industry and science but also logistics and transport into the basics of air transport. Starting with an introduction and historical look back, regulatory and market principles are introduced which are essential to understand the system. Further the main substructures aircraft, airport, airline, and air navigation services are described concerning the major technical systems and procedures. The book ends with a discussion on the environmental impacts of aviation in terms of emission and noise. At the end a focus is set to the future challenges.
