Kurzfassung
TanDEM-X (TerraSAR-X add-on for Digital Elevation Measurement) opens a new era in spaceborne radar remote sensing. The main objective of the mission is to generate an accurate three-dimensional image of the Earth, homogeneous in quality and unprecedented in accuracy. TanDEM-X generates a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with 12 m posting and relative height accuracy of 2 m and 4 m for flat and steep terrain, respectively. This paper presents a description of the technique to quantify the DEM performance in terms of the relative height error, based on the height error map annotated in the TanDEM-X products. Therefore the results are separated in steep and flat terrain, as well as in land classes. First results obtained from TanDEM-X intermediate DEMs of different land cover types are shown.
