The present thesis treats the design and construction of a thermochemical heat storage for solar power plants. Furthermore, a simulation model in ANSYS, which is used to show a chemical reaction inside the storage. The rst part is about the completion of a directly irradiated rotary kiln, where the heat is stored in a redox reaction reducing cobalt (II,III) oxide to cobalt (II) oxide. The process is continuous and the reduced material is stored in a tank. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the development and the design of the oxidation tank, where the heat is released by oxidising the cobalt (II) oxide. This tank is also used for collecting the material and it is therefore connected to the rotary kiln. The last part treats the development of a simulation model. Therefore, the packed bed in the oxidation tank is modelled as a porous medium and a transient calculation is performed, in order to validate the presented model.
