Abstract

This paper presents an overview and implementation of simplified methods to assist loads analysis in aircraft conceptual design, providing results for comparison with higher-fidelity methods. A modular approach based on spreadsheets is chosen to keep the simplicity of the methods and enable a fast check of different steps of more advanced processes. The modules implemented include static aeroelastic wing loads, flight dynamics response to manoeuver and gust inputs, landing loads and stiffness estimation. Results are compared with full aircraft FEM analysis in symmetric maneuvers and gust encounters. The information obtained from the comparison of different methods leads to a better understanding of the physics involved and can enhance decision making in design.
