Abstract

Side jet injection into a supersonic cross flow is a complex aero-thermodynamic problem. The present paper reports on experimental side jet investigations, performed at Ma=5.3 on a cone-cylinder-flare configuration. The presented results from several test series in the H2K wind tunnel of DLR Cologne cover a jet pressure ratio up to pN/pst = 1000 and angles of attack ranging from -20° ≤ α ≤ +10°. Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP), thermal imaging (IR-thermography), aerodynamic measurements, schlieren and oil film technique are applied. The flow phenomena and resulting non-linear effects are discussed with help of a combined analysis of the different data.
