Abstract

The continuous growth of road traffic volumes leads to significant environmental and economical problems. For more than four decades efforts have been done to understand the dynamics of traffic flow in order to find out how to optimize traffic with respect to a reduction of environmental impacts and economical loss due to congestion. A microsopic model of traffic flow is proposed, adding to the understanding of the different types of congestion found in traffic flow.
