Qualifizierung und Implementierung einer satellitengestützten Ortungseinheit in das Bergungssystem der Höhenforschungsrakete SHEFEX

Abstract

This thesis documents the process of selecting and qualifying a satellite based tracking unit for use with a sounding rocket recovery system. It provides a description of the recovery system as it is currently used, the technical problems that recur as well as the improvement expected by integrating a satellite tracking system. The selection criteria for the tracking systems and the transmitters are then described. The next step is the presentation of the tracking systems that were found via internet research. The comparison and selection of the tracking system, on the basis of the previously defined criteria, is followed by evaluating and choosing a suitable transmitter. The last chapter describes the qualification tests the transmitter has to pass in order to qualify for the use on the recovery system. This includes an overview of the operation of the transmitter as well as a functionality test and a description of the environment tests conducted. Finally, a campaign simulation is provided, detailing the steps necessary in order to maximize the chances for a successful recovery.
