Abstract

A process chain which is based on surface sensitivities computed to optimize ducted flows in arbitrary objects is proposed and discussed. The components of the process chain are Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the calculation of adjoint variables, the derivation of sensitivities and the deformation of the mesh. The focus of the presented work is on the derivation and the processing of the sensitivities. Using the process chain, form optimization for a 2 dimensional duct flow is performed. Using this example we examine adaptations of surface sensitivities to use them for the mesh morphing step and their impact to the optimization result.
