Holistic Systems Engineering: Towards a cross-disciplinary standard

Abstract

The paper presents a holistic process for the design of technical systems which integrates emerging standards in the fields of Systems Engineering, project management and safety assessment. The process parts are introduced and described by presenting the way in which they interact and by describing their interfaces, while omitting the selection of the methods and tools to be used inside them. The paper demonstrates that the emerging standards in the mentioned three fields are not only not supplementary but complementary with redundant activities which could be eliminated resulting in a more efficient development process.
