Abstract
Enhanced first-surface aluminum reflectors are being studied as a low cost alternative to thick glass mirrors in concentrating solar power plants. Reflector samples have been exposed at various outdoor exposure sites in order to evaluate their durability in real outdoor conditions. Most of the samples showed localized corrosion spots on the surface after almost 6 years of exposure. This article focuses on the mechanism that leads to corrosion and evaluates its consequences on the specular reflectance of the mirror.
