Abstract
The development of new concepts for wake turbulence categories and separation distances (“RECAT”) has been driven by FAA and Eurocontrol since about 2008. A crucial element is the severity assessment of wake vortex encounters by means of severity criteria. This topic needs further attention in the context of RECAT, making use of extensive know-how which is available in the research community.
