Abstract

V2X communication is getting more and more important for developing new advanced driving assistance systems allowing cooperation of road participants and autonomous driving functions. Due to the growing number of possible assistance systems it is also important to evaluate the interaction with the user and the acceptance of these systems. Suitable tools for doing this are driving simulators. However they have certain constraints like getting results in real time. Also the surrounding environment has to be taken into account to close the gap between simulation and real world results. This paper presents a new kind of communication simulator based on a simplified communication model using free space propagation computation and taking the surrounding environment into account. The requirements of the communication simulator that have to be fulfilled to enable its implementation in driving simulators as well as how they can be fulfilled are presented in the main part of this paper. A first evaluation of the presented approach is given at the end.
