Kurzfassung
Previous surveys of tower controllers have shown that they subjectively sense aircraft motion to predict future position aircraft for safe sequences. Since digitally mediated views out the window could degrade their sense of motion, a study was undertaken to help determine a key visual requirement for presentation of aircraft motion in remote/virtual airport towers: visual frame rate. Decision making of professional controllers during simulated aircraft landings for different braking decelerations with different video frame rates was investigated to determine the video rate to minimize decision errors. It appears to be around 30-40 Hz and was con-firmed by error extrapolation.
