Abstract

The objective of this thesis is the optimization of an active twistable helicopter rotor blade to minimize the total mass depending on the achievable twist rate. The choice of a suitable optimization method and the identification of necessary parameters for the optimization are also part of this thesis. The consideration of constraints in the optimization process allows to find the optimal design parameters, which are reaching the required twist rate while the structural requirements can be also satisfied at the rotor blade. Due to the complex blade structure, the optimization is first demonstrated by a homogeneous blade segment. After the evaluation of the potential optimum, an optimization concept of a complete rotor blade will be presented. Finally an outlook is given, how to proceed in respect of a total optimized rotor blade.
