Study on the potential usage of high speed-trains in Europe

Abstract

During the development of new train concepts the question arises as to where and under which conditions a train like the NGT can be used. For this reason, routes in Europe that would be particularly suitable for the operation of the NGT have been identified with the aid of calculations on passenger volumes, costeffectiveness and the investment in infrastructure. By using the NGT on routes between corresponding cities, it is possible to achieve the integration of air and rail transport as well as to tap latent potential for rail transport. This aspect is advantageous for European transport policy for capacity reasons and from an environmental point of view.
