A combined numerical and experimental method is applied to extract the influence of the fluid flow on the effective thermal conductivity of metallic foams. In the experimental work metallic foams are exposed to a heat source while a fluid is driven through the pore network. The temperatures of the foam and the fluid are measured by means of thermocouples and IR thermal imaging. Based on the experimental results, the effective thermal conductivity is determined by parameter estimation.
