Abstract

The international HART II workshop was establisched in 2005. Since then, research organizations from all over the world participated in validating their respective rotor aeromechanics codes with very different approaches. These range from pure comprehensive codes via approaches just to compute the flow field outisde the moving bodies via CFD or free-wake methods to hybrid approaches with partly CFD solutions just around the moving blades to full volume CFD solutions. The quality of results obtained with the various methods is shown and the improvements needed. The higher accuracy can be obtained with fully coupled CFD/CSD approaches, but only at the expense of tremendously increased computational cost compared to pure comprehensive codes. Although the absolute accuracy is less for comprehensive codes, they still can predict relative merits well, provided that the essential physical phenomena are all modeled.
