Abstract
The goal of this document is to summarize the development process and the intended technical specifications of the millimetre-wave imaging radiometer of the SUM demonstrator, in order to fulfil the requirements expressed in the scenario and operational requirements and in the Technical Requirement Document. This document has the following structure: • Short introduction to microwave radiometry: this section gives a brief overview on the physical background and introduces important parameters and quantities of microwave radiometry. • Imaging principle: from the user- and technical requirements and the intended capabilities the imaging principle and the overall radiometer imaging system design is derived. • Theoretical system specification: the intended values of the core system parameters are listed and explained. • Description of the single subsystems: a more detailed description of the different subsystems of the developed radiometer imaging system is outlined. • The different operational modes: specific features of the intended operational modes are explained.
