Abstract

This technical report gives an overview of the preliminary design of a 4 stages rocket concepts based on P100, Z23, Z9A and a West-European version of AVUM: dubbed AVUM II. This report focuses on the design and sizing of the liquid storable propellant upper stage AVUM II. The study was realised in the framework of the VENUSII DLR-EADS contract. All the preliminary analyses results, as well as the main results obtained from the CEF study, which took place in February 2010 at DLR Bremen are given. Optimal propellant masses and the influence of the thrust level for the upper stages as well as the sensitivity are determined. Performances and trajectories are calculated for each configuration studied. In addition the results of the CEF session are presented and include detailed mass breakdowns, maximum payload masses and trajectory analyses.
