Abstract

This technical report gives a brief overview of the preliminary design of new, liquid fuelled upper stages for a launcher based on VEGA. The report describes the different concepts based on P100, Z30/Z35/Z40 and Aestus II in the framework of the VENUS II DLR-EADS contract and their current component mass data (status December 2009). Optimal propellant masses for the upper stages and sensitivity are determined. Performance and trajectories are calculated for each studied configuration. In addition the results of the CEF study are presented and include mass breakdowns, maximum payload masses and trajectory analyses.
