Kurzfassung
Over the years 2005 to 2009 two active sidesticks were integrated into DLR’s EC135 FHS research helicopter. The overall motivation was to demonstrate the operational benefits of active inceptors to the German Military Procurement Agency (BWB) for military missions and also the improved handling qualities in civil operations. Another goal was the extension of the experimental capabilities in terms of active functions on DLR’s flying helicopter simulator FHS. This paper describes the system and its capabilities and introduces the experimental system to which the sticks are connected. The approach and the technical solutions for the integration are described, and an overview on first experiences from using the devices and future goals is given.
