The need for reliable thermodynamic simulation tools for solar thermal power plants became obvious with the continuously increasing number of companies involved in this field. The commercial code EBSILON®Professional is now extended by new components for linear focusing solar collectors. Together with the existing model library for conventional fossil fired power plants the tool allows to simulate the whole plant in design and part-load cases. The key component is the solar collector model for parabolic trough and linear Fresnel systems. For a less detailed modeling a model for the solar field is implemented. Parameters for solar components are available in a data base that can be extended by the user. A thermal storage model together with a time series simulation feature allows to simulate annual electricity yields without any external tool. The new library is developed by Evonik Energy Services together with DLR’s solar research department. Rollout of the new EBSILON®Professional release is announced for end of 2009.
