The influence of strong density gradients to the accuracy of model deformation measurements by means of the Image Pattern Correlation Technique (IPCT) was investigated on a 2D NACA 0010 profile in the Transonic Wind Tunnel Göttingen. To ensure a visible aero-optical effect the measurements were performed at Mach 0.8 and 0.85 at an angle of attack of up to 5°. Ray tracer simulations based on numerical simulation of the flow were used to optimize the test set up and to compare the measurement results with the CFD simulations. For the IPCT measurements 3 cameras were focused on a random dot pattern applied on the upper side of the wing. Thus the 3D model deformation could be evaluated combining the cameras to 3 different stereo camera systems.
