Abstract

The present paper presents the lay-out tool HEATS for the determination of transient wall heat flux to a transpiration-cooled parallel wall under laminar or turbulent flow con- ditions. It was developped to lay out the AKTiV experiment on-board the re-entry body SHEFEXII that will be launched in 2010. HEATS is based on heat balances and the results are compared to cooling experiments under laminar flow and the CFD solution of one point for the SHEFEXII trajectory. They compare well to these references with deviations of the wall temperature below 10% and deviations of heat flux below 18%. The method is used here to determine the transient heat flux to SHEFEXII, especially to AKTiV, and the necessary mass flow rate, which is 0.1 g/s<\dot m<1 g/s. The calculation duration of which for the 45-second-re-entry is short with <5min.
