Abstract

The Vienna Convention on Road Traffic postulates that the driver has to be able to control his vehicle at all time while driving. Following this rule, common ADAS are developed to provide information about vehicle status, driven environment and road traffic. Drivers have to decide the appropriate reactions this information. Using behaviourally based processes in ADAS development enables accurate driver performance without drivers direct awareness about it. Established and stable stimulus-reaction links are used which lead to more reliable stimulus-reaction patterns. This new ADAS are less time consuming, even in situations with high cognitive workload. They also avoid the reasons for misinterpretation of signals followed by inaccurate reactions, observable in cognitive designed systems.
