Abstract

The new generation of hand-held / mobile units (e.g. mobile phones, PDA, laptop,…) and special aerospace applications require significant electrical power and long operation times without recharging. Therefore systems with superior energy density are favoured. Fuel cells are an interesting option in this respect but need a continuous supply with the reactants. Therefore the handling of classical fuel cells is more complicated for the user compared to a rechargeable battery. A closed fuel cell system can overcome this problem and the handling is comparable to an rechargeable battery.
