In the present study the acoustic sources generated by turbulent flow inside internal ducts are studied experimentally. The noise is generated due to the flow passing typical components used in the aircraft climate control system, like bifurcations, orifices or bends. The experimental set-up consists of a straight tube, in which the air is driven by a silent fan followed by a silencer. This study is the first of a series of experiments to examine the influence of upstream generated turbulence on the sound generation on the components of pipe systems. In this preliminary study a configuration of one orifice with varying inner diameter is examined. The acoustic measurements were conducted for a frequency range of 63 Hz to 10 kHz. Thereby, the dependence on the generated noise on the Mach number and on the radius of the orifices could be determined.
