Abstract

A water-cooled intrusive probe system was developed for the investigation of the mixing and combustion processes of hydrogen with air behind a strut injector inside a scramjet model combustor. With this tool concentrations of gaseous stable (intermediate) reaction products as well as of water and were determined. Also Pitot pressure distributions could be obtained. The results show decreasing hydrogen concentrations with increasing distance from the horizontal center plane while increasing values for oxygen and nitrogen up to the values in the outer air flow have been observed. The obtained mole fraction profiles of water have distinct maxima, indicating the position of the reaction zones.
