Kurzfassung
Cellular based traffic monitoring is an upcoming possibility for traffic data collection and incident detection. Such a system uses the already existing infrastructure of cellular networks and can therefore provide a cost-effective alternative to conventional systems based on detectors installed in the road network or onboard units carried in individual vehicles. One of its greatest benefits is that it can easily cover wide parts of the road networks without any appreciable investments. In this paper the cellular based traffic monitoring system “TrafficOnline” is presented and some results of a field test and an additional simulation are shown.
