Performance assessment of antenna array algorithms for multipath and interferers mitigation

Abstract

The use of antenna arrays in navigation receivers of global satellite navigation systems allows for adding the spatial dimension in the problem of mitigation of interference signals. Using the spatial separation between the useful satellite ranging signals and unwanted signals like multipath echoes and radio interferers, the reception pattern of an adaptive array can be adjusted in a way that to minimise the interference effect and produce additive gain to the useful signals. The antenna array can be also utilised within maximum likelihood estimation concept for improving the estimation of ranging code delay and carrier phase in a navigation receiver. This paper aims at assessing the performance improvement brought by the array antenna algorithms of both types with the help of computer and hardware simulations.
