The work done at the German Space Center allows me to make a very deep study of an alternative technology: Hybrid Vehicles. It includes at first a comparison to Conventional Vehicles with an emphasis on the advantages of Hybrid concepts in the present world. After that, the most significant elements of the hybrid drivetrain are characterized and their role is described, so that Hybrid systems become really clear. In this report especially batteries are discussed. Then, the notion of "life cycle assessment" is explained, and although it is a priority of my final year project, it is here mainly theoretical, due to the lack of data at the present day. Finally, a discussion about the actual market and the future of hybrid vehicles is tackled through a market outlook and a brief examination of Fuel Cell Vehicles.
